Far Hills, a beautiful and very upscale town on just under five square miles, borders the Somerset County municipalities of Bedminster Township to the west, Bernards Township to the east, Bernardsville to the northeast and Peapack-Gladstone to the northwest. All of these areas are known for beautiful country tranquility and an affluent, small-town chic. Far Hills is small and has a population of less than 1,000, but those lucky few who live there would tell you that it's a little slice of heaven.

Far Hills is very well-to-do, with median household income above $100,000 and many homes listed at $1,000,000 and above. It was originally established by a wealthy New York land developer and real estate broker named Evander H. Schley in the 1880s. Schley's relatives, upon visiting the area, is said to have remarked on the beautiful vista of the "far hills," - where the town derives its name.

Far Hills shares a community pool, athletic programs, civic organizations, and a school system with neighboring Bernardsville in Somerset County. It shares a public library, a fire department and a first aid squad with neighboring Bedminster Township. Both of these areas are similarly affluent and feature upscale shopping and dining, along with access to NJ Transit rail lines to New York and several major New Jersey highways (22, 287, 202).
