Essex County Area Insight

  • Every year, the Essex County Parks Department does a wonderful job of bringing holiday cheer to its residents with a wonderful chance to stroll through the Turtle Back Zoo at night. They have it decked out in animal-shaped lights and displays. The community can spend some time having a photo with Santa or Rudolph, enjoy story time with Mrs Claus, and see Disney princesses Belle and Sleeping Beauty posing for pictures with some of the younger visitors!

Parking and admission to the Light Spectacular are free to all and is handicapped accessible. Each night there are Essex County employee volunteers accepting canned food, new toys and gently used coats for distribution to those in need throughout the county. The County Light Spectacular is open nightly from December 11 - January 3, 2016 from 5:00-9:00 pm but closed on December 24 and 25. Be sure to check the Turtle Back Zoo or Essex County website - www.essexcountynj.org - for special programs during the season!
