The Mayor and Council passed a resolution in September 2016 that changes the zoning for Monmouth Mall, thereby paving the way for Kushner Companies to re-develop their property into mix uses of both residential and commercial. The new zoning now allows for the construction of apartments in the zone. Kushner Companies’ original concept was to invest an additional $500 million, which would have included construction of 800 luxury-style rental units, a hotel, and additional outdoor space. The new zoning reduces the number of rental units down to 700, eliminates the hotel, and increases buffer zones to adjacent residential neighborhoods. The Mayor and Council expect the expansion to have a significant positive effect to the town’s ratable tax base, which will lower residents’ property taxes.

As time passes since the closure of Fort Monmouth and the transfer of ownership from the military to the Fort Monmouth Economic Redevelopment Authority I been asked by many local residents "Whats going on with the fort ?".

The answer is not very simple but the good news is that wheels are finally in motion. The Fort redevelopment web site is a rich source of information :
http://www.fortmonmouthredevelopment.com/index.aspx Few people realize that the Authority has already begun to offer buildings and land within the Fort to developers. The fire station, shooting range, and other buildings can be bid on as of December 2013 and we all hope that this small step will lead to a strong economic opportunity for the surrounding towns.

The redevelopment is expected to take decades to complete but it is an exciting time for local residents in Eatontown, Oceanport, Tinton Falls, and all of Monmouth County. It will be interesting to see this unfold but it is sure to offer new job opportunities, housing, parks , businesses and more!!

Keep checking the Redevelopment Website for future updates and perhaps one day you may be shopping for a your new home or purchasing a commercial site to open your new business....with your local RE/MAX agent of course !!

Snow is falling on my hometown as cookies are in the oven. A view of 80 Acres Park from my doorstep is beautiful as a blanket of snow forms. For local residents, a quick ride to Wolf Hill Park in Oceanport will bring you to a great hill for sledding. Cross your fingers for a few more inches and you'll see us there!!! Also a quick culinary note: brand new to the Monmouth Mall in Eatontown is Noodles and Company. Skeptical as I am of "chain restaurants", I must admit they have a diverse, tasty, and inexpensive menu. Try Thai Hot Pot or Alfredo MontAmore. Must admit for a quick bite it’s very good and you can order and pay from your smart phone to be ready at a specific time and grab and go after a hard day’s shopping. Reasonably priced homes, quality schools, shopping, parks, close to beaches and NYC: Eatontown has it all!!

If you had the pleasure of being at Eatontown Community Day this year, you may have noticed what a great display that our Volunteer Fire Department put on to help educate our community. As a proud longtime Eatontown resident, I know what a great volunteer squad we have and on Thursday, Dec. 25th, 4:00 p.m.-11:00 p.m. we have a chance to give back. With the support of Chilis restaurant, you can play your part. Simply go to the town website http://www.eatontownnj.com/ click on the link, print a flyer and go, go, go to Chili's on Rt 35 (Monmouth Mall). With each flyer presented, Chilis will donate 10% of the proceeds to our local fire dept. As the real estate market heats up, we can rest assured we are safely under the watch of Eatontowns Volunteer Fire Dept. While you're at it, visit their website and see the town's new state of the art fire truck and read the fascinating 125 year history where it all began in June of 1881!!

One of the best ways to find out what is going on in town is to attend Borough Council meetings. Regular Borough Council meetings are scheduled for the 2nd and 4th Wednesday of each month and start at 7:30 p.m.. The mayor and Council also hold Workshop meetings. Workshops are scheduled for 7:00 p.m. and precede the regular meetings. Attendance and participation are encouraged. The Council Meeting Room is on the second floor of the Municipal Building located at 47 Broad Street. Check the Borough web site for schedules, agendas and minutes.

I am very proud to be a long-time resident of Eatontown and know that I am not the only one with that feeling. As one enters the Borough from the major roads of Highways 35 and 36, you will surely notice welcoming signs and the beautiful gardens surrounding them. These plantings and many others around town are maintained by PIE or the Pride in Eatontown Committee. This group has served the town for over 30 years and “has become a dynamic force in improving the appearance of Eatontown”.

Each year, I look forward to learn the results of the winners of PIE’s beautification awards given to owners who have distinguished themselves as having outstanding maintenance and appearance of their real estate properties.

I have lived in in Eatontown for over a decade and have moved into my second "Dream House". I can be at the beach in 10 minutes, New York City in an hour, or playing tennis at one of the many great public parks Eatontown has to offer in just a short drive. From dining, shopping, parks, community, historic homes and sense of pride, Eatontown has it all and more! For home buyers, Eatontown offers so much and is priced somewhat more affordably than the neighboring towns. I love my town and couldn't imagine living anywhere else.
