Volunteers put up a fabulous display of over 1100 flags each year at the site of the municipal building. The work begins at 6:00 a.m. and the flags are taken down at early evening on Veterans Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day and Labor Day, weather permitting, each year. Each flag bears the name of a veteran who resided in Clifton. If you are interested in purchasing a flag you can stop in at the headquarters run by Veterans on the grounds of the municipal property to get more information.

The display is awesome and gives one chills. Not to be missed! FYI, if there is even a threat of rain, the flags won't go up as it takes several hours to put up the installation.

Clifton offers a program called Safety Town during July 24 - August 4th. Safety Town is for children entering kindergarten in Clifton starting in September. If a child didn't have an opportunity for kindergarten and they are entering 1st grade they are eligible to attend.

Safety Town is modeled after a national program that educates and trains children in safety through the involvement of real-life situations. The entire program is 30 hrs and classes are scheduled from 8:45-11:30 am at Clifton Public School #2. The fee is $25.00 per child to cover the cost of supplies. Registration can be done at www.cliftonrec.com, or in person at City Hall. The deadline is June 29th. If you have questions you can call, Mayor Anzaldi, 973-470-5757 or Jane Scarfo at 973-470-5758.

All of my children attended safety town and it is a fabulous program. They learn safety but also have a chance to meet new friends.

Looking for some good bakery treats for St. Patrick's Day? Go down Market Street in Clifton and find a few different places. The well known Allwood Bakery has Irish Soda Bread and many other "Green Treats" . If you want to head over to Styertowne shopping center on Bloomfield Avenue, there is the Styertowne Bakery, but bring cash; last time I was there they didn't accept credit cards.
How about cupcakes? Mr. Cupcakes on VanHouton Avenue will surely be a great hit! If you feel like a green bagel, go right across the street to The Bagel Store; he has fantastic bagels. Enjoy!
Have a Happy St. Patrick's Day!

Did you know the Clifton Boys and Girls Club has more then 5,300 members? In the 90"s it had about 1,100 members. This has slowly grown into a campus at the corner of Clifton and Colfax Avenues. What's there? They offer a rec hall, a large indoor pool, wrestling, lacrosse and more. The club is used for 14-15 hours a day, seven days a week. Amazing!

The club runs an Annual Campaign every year from October through March. The reason they run a campaign is to help with operating costs. They hope to get help from local businesses and any individual that wants to make a donation. They also run a casino night and Tricky Tray during the year. In the past their goal was to raise $75,000, and the year before that the goal was $50,000. This year they are hoping to raise $100,000. People of Clifton think of this as "An Investment in our Community". The Boys and Girls Club also provides a place for children to go to when family members have to work.

If you or someone you know would like to make a donation please go to:
bgcclifton.org/donate.htm, or you can call John DeGraaf at 973-773-0966 ex,111
