Primary responsibilities:
Serene Smith oversees the daily financial operations of RE/MAX, including billing, cash receipts, collections, payroll and accounts payable.
RE/MAX career:
Serene joined RE/MAX in 2006 as the Senior Manager of Internal Audit. She was later promoted to Operational Controller in 2009. In 2010, Smith was promoted to Vice President, Operational Controller.
Roots:
Serene grew up on a dairy farm in southeastern Minnesota with her parents and three brothers. She graduated from Iowa State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting.
Prior to joining RE/MAX, Serene was the Director of Internal Audit for Dividend Capital Trust, a REIT in Denver. She also served as a manager for Protiviti, a risk-consulting firm, specializing in internal audit. Serene began her career with Arthur Andersen in Minneapolis as an auditor, and then transferred with the firm to Denver, Colo., to become a part of their Business Process Risk Consulting practice.

Serene lives in Parker, Colo., with her husband, Daryn, and their two children.
